Career outcomes in Psychology can include working in business settings, counseling, social work, and education. Generally, after completion of SPM/O-Level/IGCSE/UEC, students will need to obtain a Year 12 qualification (Foundation/ADP/STPM/A-Levels, etc) to enter into a Bachelor degree in Psychology. There are pathway programs which can fast track your options into a Bachelor Degree in Psychology. Contact our counsellors to find out more.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, fresh graduates can enter entry-level positions in various business settings such as human resource executive, sales and marketing executive, education advisor, preschool educator, special needs educator, market researcher, content writer and editor, and many more! Check out this career guide by American Psychological Association for further information. If graduates are passionate about the mental health field, they would need to obtain a Master’s degree or above in the specialized field of mental health. For example, if you are passionate about mental health counseling, you would need to obtain a Master’s in Counselling; likewise, if you are passionate about child psychology, you would need to obtain a Master’s in Child and Adolescent. And depending on where you would like to practice, certain countries/states would require licenses and/or certificates. Do note, in order to apply for a Master’s program, working experience is often preferable.

When considering a Master’s program application to universities, make a plan on where you plan to practice; if in Malaysia, ensure the overseas program qualifies for professional registration under mental health associations in Malaysia (ie, Malaysian Association Clinical Psychology, Malaysian Board of Counsellors); if planning to practice in the country you obtained your qualification, do check the requirements for professional registration as well. An option is to keep updated with the mental health bodies in the country you are planning to pursue a career.
